Udupi: The Women’s Police in Udupi have arrested two persons under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in connection with an alleged offence involving a minor girl from the district.

The arrested accused have been identified as Jithendra and Sushan, both residents of Tekkatte. Police said the arrests were made following a complaint filed at the Udupi Women’s Police Station.

According to police sources, the accused allegedly took the 17-year-old girl to a lodge under false pretences and later committed an offence against her. The complaint also stated that the accused allegedly took away gold ornaments weighing around 71 grams from the girl.

Case registered at Women’s Police Station

Following the complaint, the Udupi Women’s Police registered a case under relevant sections of the POCSO Act and other applicable provisions of law.

Police officials said immediate action was initiated after the complaint was received, leading to the arrest of both accused persons during the investigation.

Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the incident in order to protect the identity and privacy of the minor, in accordance with legal guidelines related to cases involving children.

Officials stated that the investigation is currently underway and additional evidence is being collected as part of the inquiry.

Police continue investigation

Police sources said investigators are verifying all aspects related to the case, including the circumstances under which the alleged incident took place and the details regarding the missing gold ornaments.

The accused were produced before the court following their arrest, and further legal procedures are being carried out in accordance with the law.

Officials added that the police department remains committed to taking strict action in cases involving offences against minors and ensuring protection for children through timely investigation and legal intervention.

Awareness on child safety stressed

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of awareness regarding child safety and protection mechanisms available under Indian law.

Authorities have urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and encourage children to immediately report any suspicious behaviour or threats to trusted adults or law enforcement agencies.

Police officials also appealed to the public to avoid spreading unverified information or disclosing the identity of the victim on social media platforms, as it is punishable under law.

The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act provides stringent punishment for offences involving minors and aims to ensure child-friendly legal procedures during investigation and trial.

Further investigation into the case is continuing at the Udupi Women’s Police Station.
