Udupi: The Udupi District BJP organised the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha’ and ‘Seva Jyothi Yatra’ at the city’s Town Hall on Wednesday to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 25 years in constitutional office.
The programme was held as part of the BJP’s nationwide celebrations marking Modi’s 25 years in public service. Modi entered public office as the Chief Minister of Gujarat on October 7, 2001, and later became Prime Minister in 2014.
Live broadcast of PM Modi’s programme
District BJP leaders and party workers gathered at the Town Hall to watch the live broadcast of the programme in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi lit the ceremonial lamp.
Following the live programme, key BJP functionaries in Udupi flagged off the ‘Seva Jyothi Yatra’.
The yatra was organised as part of the BJP’s wider ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, a nationwide campaign held to mark Modi’s 25 years in public office. The campaign has included various programmes focusing on public service, development and the party’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047.
BJP leaders participate
Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivasa Pujari, MLA V Sunil Kumar and several district BJP leaders and workers participated in the programme.
Among those present were Yashpal Suvarna, Gururaja Gantihole, Gurme Suresh Shetty and Kiran Kodgi.
Party workers and leaders took part in the local programme organised to coincide with similar events held by BJP units across the country.
The Seva Jyothi Yatra has been organised in several parts of India as part of the celebrations. BJP units in different states and districts have conducted torch-bearing processions and related programmes to commemorate Modi’s 25 years in public service.
Nationwide campaign marks 25-year milestone
The BJP had announced a month-long ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ to commemorate Modi completing 25 years in continuous executive office.
The campaign began around his birthday in September and included programmes such as blood donation camps, cleanliness drives, citizen engagement initiatives and other activities. The Seva Jyoti Yatra was one of the key programmes held around October 7, the date marking 25 years since Modi became Gujarat Chief Minister.
The party has also organised Seva Yatras and torch processions in different parts of the country as part of the celebrations.
In Delhi, for instance, BJP workers took part in a Seva Jyoti Yatra that covered parliamentary constituencies, while similar programmes were held across Gujarat and other states.
Udupi event coincides with national celebrations
The Udupi programme was held alongside these nationwide activities, bringing local BJP leaders and workers together at the Town Hall.
The Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha and subsequent Seva Jyothi Yatra provided the local BJP unit an opportunity to participate in the national campaign marking the Prime Minister’s long tenure in public office.
The celebrations are centred on the BJP’s stated themes of public service, good governance and nation-building, as well as its vision of a developed India by 2047.
