Udupi – The Udupi District Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Raj Organization commemorated the birth anniversaries of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and former Chief Minister Devaraj Urs at the district Congress office on Tuesday.
The programme began with floral tributes to the leaders’ portraits. As part of the celebration, ten workers from the Vandse SLRM unit, recognised for their contributions to wet and dry waste management, were felicitated.
State co-convener Roshni Oliver announced the launch of the Rajiv Gandhi PRS Award, to be presented annually to individuals engaged in booth-level party organization and social service. Congress leader and social worker Hariprasad Rai pledged his support for the initiative.
District president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor praised the organisation’s ongoing activities, while SLRM supervisor Chaitra shared a brief progress report. District general secretary Amrutha Poojary recalled the leaders’ achievements and contributions.
Other leaders, including Udyavara Nagesh Kumar, spoke on current political challenges, while Anand Poojary Koderi welcomed the gathering, Surya Salian read the felicitation note, Suresh Shetty proposed a vote of thanks, and Roshan Barretto anchored the event.
Senior Congress leaders and office-bearers, including M A Gafoor, Veronica Cornelio, Dinesh Putran, and others, were present.
