Udupi: The Udupi Block Congress Committee has called on party leaders, office-bearers and workers to participate in a major protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, scheduled to be held in Udupi on Friday, October 23.

The decision was discussed at a meeting of the Udupi Block Congress Committee held at Congress Bhavan in Brahmagiri on Sunday, October 18. The meeting was led by Block Congress president Ramesh Kanchan under the guidance of Udupi District Congress Committee president Kishan Hegde Kolkebailu.

The meeting focused on organisational matters and public issues, including preparations for the protest, the ongoing membership drive of the Bharat Jodo Yuva Sangha and plans for a voluntary blood donation camp.

March from Ajjarkad to Service Bus Stand

The protest against the SIR exercise being undertaken by the Election Commission of India will be organised with the support of several organisations, including Sahabalve and other allied groups.

As part of the programme, a march will be taken out from the Gandhi statue at Ajjarkad to the Service Bus Stand, where a public protest meeting will follow.

Congress leaders appealed to office-bearers, leaders and workers of both the Udupi District Congress Committee and the Udupi Block Congress Committee to participate in large numbers.

The protest is expected to bring together party members and representatives of supporting organisations to raise their concerns over the electoral roll revision exercise.

Membership drive reviewed

The meeting also reviewed the ongoing membership campaign of the Bharat Jodo Yuva Sangha. Party leaders urged members to intensify the drive and enrol more people across the areas under the Udupi Block Congress Committee’s jurisdiction.

The leaders emphasised the importance of strengthening the organisation at the grassroots level and increasing participation in its activities.

Blood donation camp on October 29

Another key decision discussed at the meeting was the organisation of a voluntary blood donation camp on Thursday, October 29, under the leadership of the Udupi Block Congress Committee.

The camp will be held at Ajjarkad with the objective of supporting poor patients receiving treatment at the government hospital. The initiative is intended to help meet the medical needs of patients who require blood during treatment.

Party members and office-bearers discussed the arrangements for the camp and the importance of encouraging voluntary blood donation as a community service.

Senior Congress leaders attend meeting

Udupi District Congress Committee president Kishan Hegde Kolkebailu, former MP Jayaprakash Hegde, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee member Dinesh Putran, Udupi District Congress Publicity Committee president Harish Kini and prominent leader Amrith Shenoy attended the meeting.

They offered suggestions and guidance on the organisational and public issues discussed.

Several senior district Congress leaders, office-bearers of the Udupi Block Congress Committee, presidents of various party wings and party workers were also present.

The meeting concluded with an emphasis on mobilising party workers for the October 23 protest, expanding the membership campaign and ensuring the successful organisation of the blood donation camp.
