Udupi DC Sets Final Deadline for Indrali Bridge Completion

At the DISHA meeting held on January 24 at the Zilla Panchayath auditorium, Udupi Deputy Commissioner Dr. K Vidya Kumari firmly directed the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to finish the Indrali railway bridge project by February 10, 2025, emphasizing that no further delays would be tolerated.

Frustrated by the ongoing setbacks, Dr. Vidya Kumari stated, “The deadline cannot be moved to the end of March. In last year’s meeting, you assured completion by March 2024, and now you’re asking for March 2025. This will not continue. I will initiate the blacklisting of the civil contractor and the individual responsible for the girders.”

The Deputy Commissioner also criticized the contractor for outsourcing the girder work to an unqualified party in an attempt to reduce costs, which resulted in delays and financial issues. She reiterated that it was the contractor’s responsibility to ensure the project’s timely progress, stressing that teams had been working around the clock to speed up the work.

Although NHAI stated that the contractor promised to complete the fabrication by January 25, with welding taking 25 days, they also mentioned that the bridge might be ready by the end of March. Due to the contractor’s blacklisting, the responsibility for launching the bridge has been handed over to another agency.

Dr. Vidya Kumari concluded, “The February 10 deadline is non-negotiable; the project must be completed on time.”
