Udupi District Commissioner Vidya Kumari has issued a stern directive urging construction companies to prioritize the safety of labourers working on construction sites. In a statement, she emphasized the responsibility of all building construction firms to ensure the safety and well-being of their workforce, especially during the challenging monsoon season.

Kumari highlighted the critical need for precautionary measures to prevent landslides, accidents, and other mishaps that could endanger lives. She emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards negligence, asserting that construction activities lacking adequate safety precautions should be immediately suspended to avoid any loss of life.

The district labour officer further underscored the seriousness of the issue, stating that any loss of life among labourers due to unsafe working conditions would lead to legal repercussions. According to building laws, contractors could face up to three months imprisonment or hefty fines if found guilty of violations. The communique stressed the imperative for builders and contractors to uphold stringent safety protocols at all construction sites under their supervision.

The directives aim to ensure that construction companies adhere strictly to safety standards, fostering a secure environment for labourers amid their demanding work conditions.
