Udupi: Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna has urged government officials to reach out to the public, listen to their grievances and take prompt steps to resolve problems faced by people while accessing benefits under various government schemes.

He was speaking after inaugurating the ‘Praja Seva Andolana’ (Public Service Campaign) meeting held on Saturday at the Gram Panchayat hall in Ambalapadi village.

Officials should actively engage with public

Yashpal Suvarna said government officials should actively participate in such public service programmes and directly listen to the concerns raised by citizens.

He stressed that officials should take steps to resolve grievances on the spot wherever possible, instead of making people repeatedly visit different government offices in search of solutions.

A situation in which citizens are forced to run from pillar to post to get their legitimate issues addressed should not arise, he said.

The MLA emphasised the importance of ensuring that government schemes and welfare programmes reach eligible beneficiaries without unnecessary difficulties.

Pension and Gruha Lakshmi issues raised

Around 15 people submitted representations regarding various issues during the meeting.

A large number of citizens raised grievances related to pensions and the ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ scheme.

The public service meeting provided an opportunity for residents to directly approach officials and explain difficulties they had encountered while accessing government services and welfare benefits.

The participation of officials from different departments was intended to facilitate quicker clarification and resolution of the issues raised by residents.

Officials attend public service campaign

Several officials and representatives were present at the programme.

Among those attending were Ramesh Kanchan, Udupi Taluk President for the implementation of guarantee schemes, and Dinakar Heruru, Chairman of the Udupi Urban Development Authority.

The programme focused on improving coordination between citizens and government departments and ensuring that grievances related to welfare schemes and other public services receive appropriate attention.

Yashpal Suvarna’s call for officials to engage directly with the public comes amid continuing efforts to improve the delivery of government welfare schemes and make administrative services more accessible to beneficiaries.
