A tragic accident on Gersuppa Highway in Honnavar taluk resulted in the death of Syed Abdul Wajid (40) and injury to his wife, Gulshan Ara, on Friday evening around 4 pm.
Abdul Wajid, a resident of Bhatkal Makhdoom Colony who had recently returned from Dubai, was traveling with his wife to Shiralkoppa in Shimoga district to visit family. Their Maruti Omni van collided with a private bus traveling in the opposite direction, causing severe injuries to both occupants. They were rushed to Honnavar Government Hospital, where Abdul Wajid’s condition deteriorated rapidly. Efforts to transfer him to Udupi Hospital were unsuccessful, and he succumbed to his injuries around 6 pm.
Gulshan Ara, although injured, is reported to be out of danger and receiving treatment at Honnavar Government Hospital.
Abdul Wajid is survived by six children, including three sons. His body is being transported from Udupi to Bhatkal for final rites.
