KARWAR: Heavy rain in Uttara Kannada district led to a major landslide on Wednesday night, blocking a section of National Highway-206. The landslide occurred on the Honnavar-Sagar-Bengaluru section, significantly disrupting the movement of heavy vehicles such as buses and trucks. As a result, only a portion of the road remained passable for two-wheelers, causing major traffic disruptions.
The incident took place near Bhaskeri, where huge rocks fell onto the road. Authorities quickly initiated steps to clear the blockage and restore normal traffic flow. Teams were deployed to remove the rocks and debris from the highway, working tirelessly to ensure the safety and accessibility of the route.
The landslide has highlighted the vulnerability of the region to natural calamities, especially during the monsoon season. Local residents and frequent travelers are urged to stay updated on road conditions and exercise caution while traveling through affected areas.
Authorities are also advising heavy vehicle operators to use alternative routes until the affected section is completely cleared and deemed safe for passage. The prompt response by the concerned departments aims to minimize disruption and ensure the safety of all road users.
