A frightening incident occurred in Nagar Bastikeri of Honnavar taluk on Friday afternoon when a large tree fell on a moving bike, injuring the rider and narrowly missing his wife. Babu Naik (52), a resident of Honnavar taluk, was riding the bike with his wife, Bhagirathi Naik, seated behind him. They were returning home after attending a relative’s funeral in Nagar Bastikeri when the tree suddenly fell.
Fortunately, Bhagirathi Naik escaped unhurt, but Babu Naik sustained injuries in the accident. Upon witnessing the incident, other bikers passing by immediately rushed to their aid. Additionally, local BJP leaders Govind Naik, Srikant Naik, and Ganapati Gowda, who were traveling in a car on the same route, also stopped to assist.
Rescuers swiftly removed the tree branches to free Bhagirathi Naik and extricated Babu Naik from under the tree. They then rushed Babu Naik to the hospital for medical treatment.
The incident highlights the dangers posed by heavy rains and tree falls during the monsoon season in coastal Karnataka, including Honnavar.
