On Wednesday around 4 p.m., people in Zavuku village raised an alarm upon spotting the bear. The bear then made its way to the high school premises where the National Secondary Education Campaign was taking place.

Lakshmi Kanta, a physical education teacher at the school, quickly ran into the office upon noticing the bear approaching. Meanwhile, mathematics teacher Bojaraja was caught off guard and had to make a hasty decision due to rainwater and mud on the ground. He slipped while trying to determine which direction to go. Thankfully, since the students had already left for home prior to the bear’s arrival, there were no issues related to student safety.

Due to this incident and concerns about encountering bears in their fields, several farmers in Zavuku village decided not to work in their fields on Thursday. It is believed that bears may be venturing into nearby villages like Devalapur and Metri in search of food, as there is a bear den adjacent to those areas.

Bear sightings have also been reported in Zavuku and the Hampadevanahalli range recently. The local gram panchayat member Chaluvadi Basavaraja, along with leaders Rajana Gowda and Niraganti Basavaraja, have called for immediate intervention by forest department officials to trap or relocate these bears, as monsoon farming activities are underway.
