Vijayanagara: In a heart-wrenching incident, two teenage boys lost their lives in the Tungabhadra River near Nandyal in Harpanahalli taluk of Vijayanagara district on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Tousif (15), a student of SSLC at the Morarji Desai Residential School for Minorities in Harpanahalli town, and Sameer (14), an 8th standard student at National School.
According to local police, the boys were part of a family outing when the tragedy struck. “Initial investigations suggest that the boys ventured into the river for a swim and were caught off guard by the strong currents,” said sources.
The alarm was raised when the boys failed to resurface. A massive search operation was immediately launched, involving four expert swimmers from Harihara and 11 personnel from the Harpanahalli Fire Station. Despite their tireless efforts that lasted for nearly ten hours, the operation ended on a somber note when the bodies were recovered a short distance from where the boys had entered the water.
