The voter list for the upcoming legislative council by-election in the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Local Authorities’ constituency has shrunk by over 300 voters due to various factors. Notably, both MLA Gururaj Gantihole and MLC Prathap Simha Nayak will miss the opportunity to vote, despite being elected representatives. The absence of elections for two zilla panchayats and 13 taluk panchayats in the region is one of the reasons behind the reduced voter list.
Members of gram panchayats, municipal councils, and other local bodies are eligible to vote. However, Gantihole, unable to represent any local body due to the lack of elections in his constituency, expressed his understanding of the situation but continues to campaign for his party.
In total, 6,032 voters are eligible across the two districts. Dakshina Kannada will have 234 polling booths, while Udupi will have 158, ensuring all eligible representatives can cast their votes.
