HONNAVAR: A gaur injured in a vehicle collision on National Highway 66 near Yellapur has died, officials confirmed on Thursday. The male gaur, around 6 years old, had sought refuge in a small forest area after the incident.

Forest department staff monitored the area due to concerns that the injured animal might be vulnerable to hunters. Veterinarians provided treatment, but the gaur was later found lying exhausted and unable to walk in the undergrowth.

“The gaur is a sensitive animal and can succumb to death even from minor injuries,” stated Range Forest Officer Savita Devadiga. A post-mortem examination has been conducted, and results are awaited to determine the exact cause of death.
