In Madikeri, Kodagu district police have apprehended two individuals in connection with the assault on Vignesh Bhat, the chief priest of Sri Mrityunjaya Temple in Kattemadu. The priest was attacked by unidentified assailants at his residence earlier this week. According to SP K Ramarajan, the arrested suspects are accused of aiding the assailants by providing transportation after the attack. The authorities have confiscated the vehicles involved in the incident, he confirmed.

A specialized investigation team has been formed to track down the perpetrators. SP Ramarajan appealed to the public for cooperation, assuring that any informants would remain anonymous. He urged anyone with relevant information to contact the control room at 08272-228330 or 9480804900. The motive behind the attack on Vignesh Bhat will be determined once the investigation is completed, he added.

Vignesh’s statement has been recorded, and the investigation is progressing. Ramarajan also assured that the police force remains impartial and does not favor any particular group or individual.

Virajpet MLA and CM’s legal advisor, AS Ponnanna, condemned the assault after visiting the injured priest at the district hospital. He assured that those responsible would be held accountable. Ponnanna further cautioned against exploiting such incidents to stir communal tensions, emphasizing that criminals have no religious or caste identity. He urged the public to trust in the police and legal system.
