In response to recent criminal activities involving out-of-state workers in Kodagu, local police have launched a comprehensive verification process. This move follows a burglary at the historical Kote Mariyamma Temple in Madikeri, where two Assamese laborers were implicated.

Madikeri Rural Sub-Inspector Venkat and his team have been inspecting estates, resorts, hotels, and homestays in Madenadu village, checking the Aadhaar Cards and other documents of workers. They have also requested employers to promptly report information about out-of-state workers to local police stations.

Kodagu SP K Ramarajan highlighted a troubling trend of rising criminal cases involving non-local workers. He stressed the necessity of thorough documentation and warned that plantation owners and businesses that fail to verify worker backgrounds may face legal action. Ramarajan advised employers to collect complete information, including photos and identity cards, and to notify local police about all out-of-state workers.

Dr. M Anil Chengappa, a senior dentist in Madikeri, expressed concern over Kodagu becoming a hotspot for illegal migrants from Assam and Bangladesh who commit crimes. He urged the community to support police efforts in tackling this issue.
