Madikeri: With forecasts predicting heavy rains in Kodagu district, a team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel has arrived to implement precautionary measures. The NDRF 10th battalion from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, reached Kushalnagar yesterday evening and was welcomed by District Disaster Management Officer Ananyakumar.
A contingent of 25 NDRF personnel, led by Commandant Shiya Jayakumar, has been accommodated at the District Industrial Training Centre Hostel near Kudige in Kushalnagar. NDRF sources indicated that additional personnel could be summoned if necessary, recalling that 23 personnel were deployed last year. The team will stay in the district until the monsoon season concludes.
In case of natural calamities, local resources including the Police Department, Fire and Emergency Services, Home Guards, Revenue Department, Panchayat Development Officers from local Gram Panchayats, rafters from Dubare, and vehicles designated by the District Administration will join the NDRF in rescue operations.
The NDRF team arrived in two trucks, equipped with training and gear for flood, landslide, and other natural disaster rescue operations. They brought life jackets, motor boats, rafts, wood chopping tools, ropes, searchlights, cutters, oxygen cylinders, stretchers, life-saving medicines, and additional rescue equipment for both human and animal rescues.
