Madikeri: The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts has announced the launch of The Leela Coorg Forest Sanctuary, marking the hospitality brand’s entry into nature-inspired luxury tourism in Karnataka. Nestled amid coffee and spice plantations near Madikeri, the premium resort is expected to welcome guests later this year.
Spread across 76 acres, the property currently features 71 luxury villas designed to blend seamlessly with Coorg’s lush landscape, offering visitors a tranquil retreat focused on wellness, sustainability and authentic local experiences.
Nature meets luxury
Developed in harmony with its natural surroundings, the resort combines contemporary architecture with locally sourced materials and traditional craftsmanship. The property has received IGBC Platinum Certification, highlighting its commitment to environmentally sustainable development.
The first phase of expansion will introduce 19 additional villas, increasing the total accommodation capacity to 90 luxury keys.
Wellness and authentic Coorg experiences
Guests can enjoy four dining venues serving global delicacies alongside regional Kodava cuisine. The resort also celebrates Coorg’s rich coffee heritage by offering curated plantation and coffee experiences.
A key highlight is the 27,000-square-foot wellness centre, where guests can experience Ayurvedic therapies and holistic wellness programmes under Aujasya by The Leela.
The property also boasts a picturesque seven-acre lake, a private helipad and an exclusive four-bedroom Presidential Villa featuring a private swimming pool and dedicated wellness facilities.
Expansion strengthens Karnataka tourism
Commenting on the development, Anuraag Bhatnagar, Chief Executive Officer of The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts, said Coorg’s rich cultural heritage and ecological significance make it an ideal destination for the brand’s expansion in South India.
With the addition of the Coorg property, The Leela now operates 15 luxury hotels with more than 4,160 keys across 13 cities. The hospitality group has nine more properties under development and plans to expand its portfolio to 24 hotels over the next three years.
