Fresh investigation details have emerged in the shocking alleged sexual assault of a US tourist at a homestay in Kodagu, where police say attempts were made to suppress the incident.
The alleged crime took place at Devi Villa Homestay near Kutta on April 12.
Woman allegedly prevented from seeking help
According to investigators, the tourist from Michigan told police she was allegedly instructed not to inform police, consult a doctor or speak to anyone after the incident.
She reportedly said she was allowed to communicate only through text messages and was forced to remain at the property for four days after the alleged assault.
Police stated that preliminary findings suggest the woman was deeply traumatised and there were attempts to hush up the matter.
Two arrested in the case
Police have arrested Brijesh Kumar and Vishal Ponnappa so far.
The survivor alleged she was given a welcome drink after arriving alone at the homestay and later woke up in a distressed condition.
Evidence preserved
Before leaving the homestay, the woman reportedly collected key material evidence, including bedsheets and personal items, and carried them with her to Mysuru.
Police said these materials may become important evidence during court proceedings.
Tourist safety concerns rise
The incident has raised serious concerns over tourist safety, verification standards and accountability in private stay accommodations.
Authorities are continuing the investigation and examining all circumstances surrounding the case.
