Leopard and cubs spotted near Banashankari, causing concern among residents
In Bengaluru’s Banashankari 6th Stage, residents have been alarmed after a leopard and its cubs were spotted prowling the area. CCTV footage from an apartment, along with videos captured by locals, confirmed the sightings, sparking fear among the community.
The leopard is believed to have come from the nearby Turahalli Forest, which borders the residential area. Prakash RM, a resident, shared his initial disbelief, saying, “I didn’t believe it until I saw the CCTV footage. Now, I am scared to go around the area after sunset.”
The Banashankari 6th Stage Resident Welfare Association has reported the sightings to the Kaggalipura Forest Division. TS Mahesha, the association’s president, explained, “Leopards frequently venture into the residential area before returning to the forest. We’ve raised concerns with the authorities.”
Assistant Conservator of Forest Ravindra stated, “We haven’t yet confirmed any photographic or CCTV evidence of a leopard with cubs, but we are investigating.” He noted a separate sighting of a male leopard in Turahalli Forest, approximately two weeks ago.
Forest officials have urged residents to remain calm if the cubs are spotted, advising against disturbing them. “The leopards will return to the forest on their own,” one official explained, urging the public not to interfere with the cubs.
