Mangaluru: A one-day workshop titled “Media Responsibility in Suicide Prevention” will be held at Paneer Auditorium on Tuesday September 6 at 10.30 am as a part of World Suicide Prevention Day. The workshop is organised by the Research Cell of Nitte Institute of Communication in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatric Social Work at NIMHANS, Bengaluru.
The resource person for the event is Lekshmi Vimala and Bharat, PhD Scholars, Department of Psychiatric Social Work, NIMHANS. Dr. Ankitha Shenoy, Senior Resident, Department of Psychiatry, KS Hegde Charitable Hospital is the Guest of Honour.
The theme for the workshop is ‘Creating hope through action’ and reflects the need for collective action to address the public health concern that is suicide.
The objectives of the events are to impart knowledge about suicide and associated factors, to discuss the role of media in suicide prevention and to generate awareness about responsible reporting practices while dealing with suicide cases.
