Mangaluru: On April 4, 2024, the Department of Paediatrics at Yenepoya Medical College launched a vaccination helpline. The initiative aims to assist parents regarding immunization for their children.

Dr Harshith G.C., Surveillance Medical Officer at WHO, Mangalore, served as the chief guest for the program. He addressed the audience, commending the launch of the helpline for its efforts in promoting vaccination.

In attendance were Dr M.S. Moosabba, Principal, Dr Prakash R M Saldanha, Vice-Principal, Dr Abhay Nirgude, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Yenepoya Medical College, Dr Sahana K.S., Professor & HOD of the Department of Paediatrics, and Dr Anitha S. Prabhu, Professor, Department of Paediatrics.

Dr Sahana K.S., informed that,  there may be so many hindrances  which would have prevented parents from the getting their children vaccinated on time. Through this helpline we are addressing all their concerns and queries through the phone call.

There may be so many other instances where there may be missed/delayed vaccine  or parents are travelling abroad/following dog bite or any other injury from metallic sharp objects/ optional vaccines/ covid vaccines where parents may need clarification. In the above scenario parents can approach us and discuss over the phone.

The Principal and Vice-Principal emphasized the primary objective of the helpline: to encourage vaccination by addressing parental concerns effectively.

Operating from 9 am to 3 pm on weekdays, calls to the helpline (No. 89041 81943) will be answered by Paediatricians of Yenepoya Medical College.

This initiative by the Paediatrics Department is part of Yenepoya Medical College’s 25th-anniversary celebrations, aiming to promote vaccination and protect children from diseases.
