Mumbai: Television actor Divyanka Tripathi has opened up about the physical challenges she faced during postpartum recovery, revealing that severe back pain made it difficult for her to even get up during the initial months after childbirth. The actor said aqua therapy and physiotherapy helped her rebuild strength and regain confidence as she prepared to return to work.
Divyanka, who is back on television with the second season of Pati Patni Aur Panga alongside her husband Vivek Dahiya, spoke about her recovery in an interview with The Times of India.
Although she had earlier described her recovery as smooth, the actor said the experience was not without difficulties. She revealed that the first two months after delivery were particularly challenging and that she needed rehabilitation to regain her physical strength.
Her experience also prompted her to speak about the importance of seeking appropriate medical support during postpartum recovery.
Severe back pain made daily movements difficult
Divyanka said she struggled with significant back pain after giving birth to twin boys. The discomfort affected even basic movements, making it difficult for her to get up.
The actor explained that she had initially considered her recovery to be smooth but wanted to share the difficulties she experienced so that other women would understand that postpartum recovery can involve challenges that may not always be visible.
She said the first two months were particularly difficult. With her television comeback approaching, Vivek encouraged her to begin rehabilitation instead of delaying the process.
According to Divyanka, her husband felt that physiotherapy was important for her recovery and pushed her to take the first steps towards rebuilding her strength.
The actor said she eventually began aqua therapy after experiencing difficulty with ordinary movements because of her back pain.
“When you mentioned rehab, I remembered that I keep saying my recovery has been smooth. However, I want this to be a message for other women as well. I did rehab, and the first two months were extremely difficult,” she told The Times of India.
She added that she was struggling to get up and that her back pain was severe, prompting her to explore exercises that could be performed in water.
Aqua therapy helped her rebuild strength
Divyanka said she started aqua therapy, a form of physiotherapy that involves performing exercises in a swimming pool.
The approach allowed her to work on rebuilding strength while reducing the strain placed on her body. Water-based exercises can provide support and resistance, allowing individuals to perform certain movements in a different environment from conventional exercise sessions.
For Divyanka, the therapy became an important part of her rehabilitation during the period when she was preparing to resume professional commitments.
She explained that the decision to begin physiotherapy was influenced by the upcoming television show and Vivek’s encouragement. The rehabilitation programme helped her regain confidence in her ability to perform physical activities.
The actor also said that the support she received from the rehabilitation team played an important role in helping her restart the recovery process.
Her account highlights that postpartum recovery is not necessarily a straightforward process. While some women may feel physically comfortable relatively soon after childbirth, others may experience pain, weakness or difficulty returning to their usual routines.
Divyanka’s experience also underlines the importance of recognising persistent discomfort rather than assuming that all postpartum symptoms will resolve without assistance.
Actor continues physiotherapy after initial recovery
The actor revealed that she is still undergoing physiotherapy, although she has reduced the frequency of her sessions.
She said the initial month of rehabilitation helped her rebuild strength and regain confidence. The improvement encouraged her to continue working towards recovery even after the intensive phase of treatment.
Reflecting on the role of physiotherapy, Divyanka said that delaying rehabilitation could have prolonged her recovery by several months.
She told the publication that the encouragement to begin treatment helped her avoid a further delay of around four or five months.
“That one month of rehabilitation helped me rebuild my strength and regain the confidence that I could at least do something,” she said.
The actor added that recovery is a long process and that she continues to work on it, even as she resumes her professional commitments.
She also encouraged other women to consider physiotherapy when needed, stressing that it should be started under proper medical guidance.
Her comments were based on her personal experience and do not suggest that every woman requires the same form of rehabilitation. The nature and timing of postpartum treatment can vary depending on an individual’s health, symptoms and medical advice.
Vivek Dahiya encouraged her to prioritise recovery
Divyanka credited Vivek for encouraging her to begin physiotherapy when she was preparing to return to television.
She said he recognised the importance of rehabilitation and urged her not to postpone it. His encouragement came as the couple prepared for her comeback with the second season of Pati Patni Aur Panga.
The actor said that without this push, she might have delayed the process by another four or five months.
The couple’s experience also reflects the role that family support can play during the transition into parenthood. Divyanka’s comments indicate that Vivek encouraged her to focus on regaining her strength while balancing the demands of caring for their newborn children and returning to work.
Divyanka and Vivek welcomed twin boys in May
Divyanka Tripathi and Vivek Dahiya got married in July 2016. The couple welcomed their twin baby boys in May this year, marking a new chapter in their family life.
Since becoming parents, the actors have been balancing their personal responsibilities with professional commitments. Divyanka’s return to television with Pati Patni Aur Panga has brought renewed attention to her experience of childbirth and recovery.
By speaking about her severe back pain and rehabilitation, the actor has shared a more detailed account of the physical difficulties that accompanied her postpartum journey.
Her message is that recovery can take time and that women should not feel pressured to resume their usual routines immediately. Seeking appropriate medical guidance and following a rehabilitation plan suited to individual needs can be important steps in the process.
