In Mumbai, Christmas is no longer limited to homes, neighbourhood bakeries or midnight mass. Over the years, festive menus have become a defining part of the city’s year-end dining calendar, with restaurants across formats using the season to create warmth, indulgence and a sense of togetherness. What began as a cultural nod has evolved into a citywide dining moment, where Christmas menus are as much about experience as they are about food.

Why Christmas menus matter in Mumbai

For chefs and restaurateurs, Christmas represents pause, generosity and shared celebration. Chef Jyeshth Gupta of Onrique notes that while Mumbai’s connection to Christmas is rooted in its colonial past and strong Christian communities, today it has become “a citywide celebration of togetherness and indulgence.”

Jayesh Chheda of Luuma House believes festive menus allow restaurants to step away from everyday dining. “In a city that thrives on cultural fusion, a Christmas menu brings warmth, nostalgia and indulgence together,” he says. Chef Amol Arora of DEA adds that Christmas is deeply linked to gathering and shared tables, making it a natural moment for chefs to express hospitality through food.

Legacy establishments echo the sentiment. Faryal Singh of Eddies Cafe says Mumbai celebrates every festival with completeness. “Christmas brings colour, charm and festivity to the city, enriching its culture of hospitality and secularism,” she notes. Aayush Arora of Fountain Sizzlers adds that Christmas in Mumbai is about stepping out together rather than staying indoors.

How restaurants are reimagining Christmas menus

This season, chefs are moving beyond predictable roasts and heavy desserts. At Onrique, flavours like butternut squash, Brussels sprouts, mulled grapes and smoked chilli evoke warmth while staying contemporary. At Luuma House, festive nostalgia is balanced with modern comfort, allowing familiar flavours to be reinterpreted. At JW Marriott Mumbai Sahar, the focus is on atmosphere, with menus designed to create joy and togetherness.

Where to find standout Christmas menus

Several restaurants are offering distinctive festive experiences this season. Ode presents a soulful European-inspired menu with seasonal comfort dishes. Carnival by Trèsind hosts a high-energy eight-course tasting menu with live performances on December 24 and 25. Mercii offers a limited-edition festive menu ideal for dining and gifting, while Fairmont Mumbai marks its first Christmas with Art Deco–inspired celebrations. In Bandra, Pomodoro brings festive flavours through artisanal pasta in a cosy neighbourhood setting.

In Mumbai, Christmas menus have become more than seasonal specials — they are a reflection of how the city celebrates food, community and shared joy.
