India shines with culinary diversity in Taste Atlas 2024 rankings

Taste Atlas has unveiled its rankings for 2024-25, highlighting top cuisines, dishes, drinks, and restaurants. While Indian cuisine didn’t land a spot in the ‘Top 10 Best Cuisines’, it made a mark in various other categories. Greek cuisine claimed the top position, followed by Italy and Mexico. Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Indonesia, France, Japan, and China rounded out the top 10.

Greek food, known for its premium olive oils, dairy products, and honey, tops the list, embodying the Mediterranean diet’s excellence. Italian cuisine, famed for iconic dishes like Pizza Napoletana and Parmigiano Reggiano, ranks second, celebrated for its rich culinary heritage. Mexico’s distinct cheeses, spirits, and vibrant restaurant culture secure its place at number three.

India ranks 12th in the global cuisine standings, with praise for its rich diversity, including dishes like Amritsari kulcha and Hyderabadi biryani. Mumbai earned recognition as the ‘fifth Best Food City’, while Punjab secured the ‘ninth Best Food Region’ title, showcasing India’s gastronomic richness.

Indian dishes such as Butter Chicken (29th), Malai Kofta (1st in Best Vegetable Dishes), and Amritsari Kulcha (2nd in Best Breads) featured prominently. The country’s renowned restaurants, Amrik Sukhdev (Murthal) and Pabba’s (Mangaluru), made it into the ‘Top 100’.

Despite criticism, Taste Atlas remains transparent, with over 477,000 ratings across 15,000 dishes, continuing to highlight India’s culinary diversity globally.
