Mandya, Karnataka, Aug 22: In a tragic incident, a couple was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Karnataka’s Mandya district, with authorities suspecting a case of double suicide. Swati, 22, was found hanging in her home on Tuesday evening, while her husband, Mohan, 25, was discovered dead in a lake about a kilometer away on Wednesday morning.
The couple, who had been married for two years and were parents to a one-year-old girl, reportedly had a troubled marriage marked by frequent disputes. Superintendent of Police, Mandya, suggested that initial assessments point to a double suicide.
However, Swati’s family has lodged a complaint against Mohan’s family, accusing them of dowry harassment. They allege that Mohan murdered Swati and then took his own life by jumping into the lake. In a fit of anger over their daughter’s death, Swati’s parents and relatives set fire to a nearby shed.
The police are investigating the case further to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths.
