Mandya: A 32-year-old Bengaluru woman died after the car she was travelling in fell from a flyover on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway near Mandya on Friday, September 18. The accident occurred near Ummadahalli Gate under the jurisdiction of Mandya Central Police Station.
The deceased has been identified as Anjana, a technology professional from Bengaluru. She was travelling towards Mysuru with her husband when the accident occurred. Her husband Harish and the car driver Nithin also sustained injuries in the crash and were taken to hospital for treatment.
According to police, the vehicle was travelling from Bengaluru towards Mysuru when the driver reportedly lost control of the car due to overspeeding and hit the divider on the flyover. The impact sent the vehicle off the flyover and onto the underpass below.
Car crashes through flyover and falls onto underpass
The accident took place near Ummadahalli Gate, where the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway passes over an underpass.
Police said the car was travelling towards Mysuru when it reportedly went out of control and collided with the divider. The impact was severe enough to send the vehicle off the flyover.
The car subsequently fell onto the road below, causing serious injuries to the occupants.
Anjana was reportedly thrown out through a window during the impact and suffered grievous injuries. Her husband and the driver also sustained injuries in the accident.
Woman dies despite treatment
Following the crash, Anjana, Harish and Nithin were rushed to Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) Hospital for treatment.
Anjana’s injuries were critical. Despite medical treatment, she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Reports have differed on the exact circumstances and timing of her death, but multiple reports confirm that she died following the accident.
