Seeking Rs 5,000 crore in central assistance to boost irrigation in Mandya, district in-charge minister N Cheluvarayaswamy pledged full support to Union minister and Mandya MP HD Kumaraswamy in industrialising the area. Emphasizing development over politics, Cheluvarayaswamy assured that ongoing guarantee schemes will continue despite recent electoral defeat.

Highlighting the need for substantial funds to enhance the Cauvery command areas through irrigation projects, he expressed his intention to formally request the assistance in writing to Kumaraswamy. “Politics is not important for us. My only aim is development. Kumaraswamy has an important portfolio at the Centre.

Let him get Rs 5,000 crore special fund for the irrigation projects. It will help develop the Cauvery command areas. I will write a letter to him in this regard. The state govt will extend all support to him,” he said.

“Kumaraswamy is intelligent and has good experience as CM for two terms. Let him help us in revising the Mysugar factory. Let him bring new factories and industries to the district. We will extend all support.

Let us take up development works,” Cheluvarayaswamy added. The minister also reviewed the modernisation works of the Visvesvaraya main canal, estimated to cost Rs 300 crore, and directed officials to expedite its completion.
