Mandya city, which previously hosted the Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelanas in 1974 and 1994, is set to host the 87th edition of the literary festival from December 20-22. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the new dates after the event, initially scheduled for June, was postponed due to the implementation of the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections.

The Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP), founded in 1915 by Maharaja Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, has organized 86 Sammelanas to date. The last event was held in Haveri in January 2023. The Sammelana has a storied history, with events held across Karnataka and even outside the state in places like Kasaragod, Solapur, Mumbai, and New Delhi.

Mandya first hosted the event in 1974, and again in 1994, both times leaving a significant impact on the local community. The 1994 Sammelana was particularly memorable, with local residents donating generously to the organizing committee, resulting in surplus funds being used for various developmental projects in Mandya.

As Mandya prepares to host the event for the first time in the 21st century, anticipation is high. The administration and local community are gearing up to ensure a successful and memorable Sammelana, celebrating Kannada literature and culture.
