In Mandya district’s Devalapur Hobali taluk, a tragic incident unfolded when Sarath, a 30-year-old from Hosahalli, took his own life after attacking a young woman with a machete. Sarath, who had been infatuated with the woman from his village, was devastated by her recent rejection of his advances. In a fit of rage, he assaulted her with the weapon.
Following the attack, Sarath turned off his mobile phone and went to a nearby farm pit in Sunaganahalli, where he committed suicide by falling into the pit. PSI Ravikumar Sharath from the Rural Police Station responded to the scene, recovered Sarath’s body, and had it sent to Adichunchanagiri Hospital for a post-mortem. Afterward, Sarath’s body was returned to his family.
The police have registered a case at the Nagamangala Rural Police Station, while the woman’s family has filed a complaint at Keragodu Police Station accusing Sarath of attempted murder.
In a separate incident in Bengaluru, a woman was molested during her morning walk in Krishna Nagar, Konanakunte. The assault, which occurred around 5 am on August 2 and was captured on CCTV, involved the attacker approaching the victim from behind, molesting her, and fleeing the scene. The Bengaluru police have filed a case under Sections 76, 78, and 79 of the IPC and are actively searching for the suspect. South Deputy Commissioner of Police Lokesh Jagalasar emphasized the seriousness of the case and women’s safety.
