A dramatic protest unfolded at Pandavapura Sugar Factory in Mandya district, Karnataka, when a worker climbed a 510-foot chimney after being laid off.
The protester, identified as Ramakrishna, was part of the factory’s electrical division. Along with several colleagues, he had been demonstrating against mass layoffs by Nirani Sugar, the contractor managing operations. Amid growing unrest, he resorted to this extreme act to demand justice.
Emergency services, including fire personnel and police, rushed to the scene, working tirelessly to bring him down safely. However, the height and risk involved have made rescue efforts challenging.
In an unrelated incident in Delhi, a man climbed a high-voltage electric pole near Yamuna Khadar, demanding that top government officials address environmental conservation. Authorities acted swiftly to ensure his safe rescue.
Both cases highlight the desperation behind such protests and the urgent need for authorities to address workers’ grievances effectively.
