Mangaluru: The 13th Urs of Sayyiduna Tajul Ulama Ullal Thangal (QS), who served as a prominent leader of the Ahlu Sunnath Wal Jama’ath in Karnataka and Kerala for nearly 65 years, will be held at Ettikulam in Kerala from September 11 to 13.

The three-day Urs will feature a range of religious and cultural programmes, with prominent Sunni scholars and community leaders from Karnataka and Kerala expected to participate.

According to Thouseef Saadi Harekal, chairman of the Karnataka division of the Urs Reception Committee, preparations have been made for various programmes to commemorate Tajul Ulama and his contributions to the community.

Urs programme begins on September 11

The three-day programme will officially commence on Friday evening, September 11, with Makham Sharif Ziyarat and flag hoisting.

The opening programme will be held under the leadership of Sayyid Hamid Imbichikoya Thangal, son of Tajul Ulama.

The organisers said several religious programmes and gatherings have been planned during the Urs, with scholars and leaders from both states expected to take part.

Tajul Ulama Ullal Thangal is remembered for his long association with the Ahlu Sunnath Wal Jama’ath and his role in religious and community affairs in Karnataka and Kerala. According to the organisers, he dedicated thousands of scholars to the service of the community during his decades-long leadership.

Scholars and community leaders to participate

Speaking at a press conference, Central Madanis Association general secretary Basheer Madani Kullur said a number of programmes had been organised as part of the Urs.

He said prominent Sunni scholars and leaders from Kerala and Karnataka are expected to attend the various events scheduled over the three days.

The participation of scholars and community leaders from the two states is expected to make the Urs an important religious gathering for followers and members of the community.

The programmes will include religious sessions as well as events aimed at recognising the achievements of students associated with the Tajul Ulama Education Centre.

Sanad Award Conference on September 13

One of the major events of the Urs will be the Sanad Award Conference scheduled for September 13.

Students who have successfully completed the Mukhtasar course at the Tajul Ulama Education Centre will be honoured during the conference.

The students will be conferred the title ‘Al Madani’ upon completion of the course. The award programme is expected to bring together scholars, educators, students and community representatives.

The organisers said the conference would be an important part of the three-day Urs programme and would highlight the role of religious education in preparing scholars for community service.

Programmes to mark Tajul Ulama’s legacy

The Urs is being organised to commemorate the 13th anniversary of Tajul Ulama Ullal Thangal and remember his contribution to religious and community activities in Karnataka and Kerala.

The organisers said his nearly 65 years of service as a leader of the Ahlu Sunnath Wal Jama’ath had made a lasting contribution to the community. His association with scholars and religious institutions across the two states continues to be remembered by followers.

Ulama and community leaders from Karnataka and Kerala are expected to attend the various programmes from September 11 to 13 at Ettikulam.

Thouseef Saadi Harekal said the Karnataka division of the Urs Reception Committee was working towards facilitating the participation of devotees and community members in the programmes.
