Mangaluru: Police intercepted a lorry near Kuloor on the National Highway in the early hours of Monday and allegedly uncovered an illegal cattle transportation operation.
The action followed information provided by Bajrang Dal activists, who alerted the police about cattle allegedly being transported in a cruel manner. Acting on the information, police intercepted the vehicle and conducted a search.
23 cattle found inside lorry
Police found a total of 23 cattle being transported in the lorry. The manner in which the animals were allegedly being transported raised concerns about their safety and welfare.
Following the interception, police took one person into custody for questioning in connection with the transportation of the cattle.
Two other persons who were reportedly present at the location managed to flee before they could be detained.
Police launch further investigation
The police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the transportation of the cattle and identify all those allegedly involved in the operation.
Officials are also expected to examine the vehicle and gather further details regarding where the cattle were being transported from and their intended destination.
