Mangaluru— A tragic road accident claimed the life of Kamala C V, a 67-year-old woman, at Kallugundi near the Mani–Mysuru highway in Sullia on Sunday evening.

Kamala was reportedly standing by the roadside near the Kallugundi post office, waiting to cross, when a motorcycle approaching from the Madikeri side struck her. According to police, the bike was allegedly being ridden in a reckless and negligent manner, with a pillion passenger onboard.

The impact caused Kamala to fall hard onto the road, sustaining a severe head injury. Local bystanders rushed to assist and arranged for an ambulance. She was taken to a nearby hospital in Sullia, where doctors later informed her son that she had succumbed to her injuries.

Following a complaint from her son, the Sullia Police have registered a case under Sections 281 and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The incident highlights growing concerns around road safety and irresponsible driving on rural highways.
