Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Police have completed about 75 per cent of their “Mane Mane Police” (house‑to‑house police) programme, officials said on Wednesday.
Programme progress and outreach
Launched to strengthen community policing, the “Mane Mane Police” initiative involves police teams visiting individual homes to interact with residents, address grievances, promote awareness, and collect feedback.
So far, three‑quarters of the target visits have been completed, covering a large portion of the city’s residential areas. The programme includes spreading information on issues like cybercrime, drug abuse, social offences, and home safety.
Objectives and community response
The project aims to bridge the gap between police and citizens, making policing more accessible and responsive. During visits, officers share helpline numbers, explain citizens’ rights, encourage reporting of crimes, and note local concerns.
Residents have reportedly welcomed the initiative, appreciating the more personal touch in policing and the opportunity to communicate directly with local law enforcement.
Challenges and next steps
While 75 per cent completion is a significant milestone, officials say remaining visits will require consistent effort, especially in remote or densely populated areas.
Police plan to intensify coordination among station teams, adjust logistics, and ensure every household in the city is reached. The programme is being rolled out in phases until full coverage is achieved.
