Mangaluru: Sunday, October 25th, music lovers in Mangaluru had the rare opportunity to enjoy an instrumental musical performance! A Jaltarang recital was organized at the Town Hall as part of the 31st annual anniversary celebrations of the Mangaluru-based dance institution, Bharatanjali (Regd.). Vidushi Shashikala Dani – India’s only female Hindustani Jaltarang artist – along with her son, Dr. Sugnan Dani, captivated the audience with a Jaltarang jugalbandi performance.

In this Jaltarang Jugalbandi, the performers presented an alap in Raga Madhuvanti, followed by a drut composition set to Teen Taal. Both artists showcased their remarkable skill by producing melodious music on the porcelain bowls. Subsequently, they performed a dhun based on Mishra Khamaj, along with a few devotional songs. They were ably accompanied by Smt. Srilatha Prabhu on the Tabla, Smt. Vandana Rani on the Tamburi, and Shri Arun Dani on the Manjira.

The program was inaugurated by Shri Sachidananda Bharati Swamiji of Edneer Matha, who also delivered a benediction. On this occasion, Vidushi Shashikala Dani – recognized as the country’s only female ‘Jaltarang‘ artist graded ‘A’ by All India Radio – was warmly felicitated and honored by the Bharatanjali Natya Samsthe. Shri Agari Raghavendra Rao, present on the stage as the chief guest, offered his best wishes.
