Mangaluru: A man who had been absconding for nearly nine years in connection with criminal cases registered in Mangaluru has been arrested by police, bringing a long-pending investigation closer to closure.
The accused has been identified as Suhan alias Sonu (33), son of late Somayya and a resident of Bira Poojari Compound in Ashok Nagar, Mangaluru.
Long period of absconding
According to police sources, Suhan had failed to appear before the court in connection with cases registered at Urwa and Mangaluru North police stations. Following his non-appearance, the court had issued a Long Pending Case (LPC) warrant against him in relation to the Urwa police station case.
Despite repeated efforts by law enforcement agencies over the years, the accused had managed to evade arrest and remained on the run for nearly a decade.
Arrest in Mumbai
The breakthrough came when a special team from the Urwa Police Station tracked the accused to Mumbai. Acting on credible information, the police team apprehended him on March 29, 2026.
The operation was carried out by a team comprising Assistant Sub-Inspector Laxman, Head Constable Narayan (HC 956), Police Constable Yallalinga (PC 3240), and Police Constable Mohammed Hadi (PC 330).
Officials stated that coordinated efforts and sustained tracking helped in locating and arresting the accused after years of evasion.
Legal proceedings to follow
Following his arrest, Suhan has been brought back to Mangaluru and will be produced before the court in connection with the pending cases. Authorities are expected to initiate further legal proceedings based on the charges registered earlier.
Police officials reiterated their commitment to tracing absconding accused persons and ensuring that they are brought to justice, regardless of the time elapsed.
Conclusion
The arrest of a long-absconding accused highlights the persistence of law enforcement agencies in pursuing pending cases. It also serves as a reminder that evading the legal system may delay justice, but does not prevent it.
