Mangaluru: The Kankanady police have arrested an absconding accused who allegedly evaded arrest for nearly one-and-a-half years despite the court issuing 14 arrest warrants against him. Police said the accused repeatedly changed his place of residence to avoid being traced.
Accused arrested in Chikkamagaluru district
The arrested person has been identified as Chandrashekhar Lingaraj Bovi (26), a resident of Santhe Maidan Bovi Colony in Bhadravati.
According to police, Chandrashekhar was named as an accused in a case registered at the Kankanady City Police Station in 2024. After initially securing bail from the court, he allegedly failed to appear for further legal proceedings and went into hiding.
Police said he remained absconding for around one-and-a-half years, during which time the Principal District and Sessions Court repeatedly issued arrest warrants against him.
Changed addresses to evade police
Investigators said the court had issued 14 arrest warrants against the accused over the course of the proceedings.
However, Chandrashekhar allegedly managed to evade arrest by frequently changing his residential address and location, making it difficult for the police to trace him.
Police continued efforts to locate the accused based on intelligence inputs gathered during the investigation.
Arrested on specific intelligence
Acting on precise information, warrant staff attached to the Kankanady City Police Station, Balaraj and Ravi Kumar, tracked down the accused on July 11 at Malligehalli Maidalu near Balehonnur in Chikkamagaluru district.
The police team arrested Chandrashekhar and brought him to Mangaluru.
Following the arrest, the accused was produced before the court for further legal proceedings.
Police said the arrest marks the successful execution of long-pending warrants against the accused after sustained efforts by the warrant execution team.
