Puttur: The Puttur Town police have arrested an absconding accused against whom 41 arrest warrants had been issued in connection with a robbery case registered in 2017. The accused, who had failed to appear before the court despite repeated summons, was traced and apprehended in Kerala.

The arrested accused has been identified as Nelson C V (38), a resident of Thrissur district, Kerala.

Robbery case dates back to 2017

According to the police, the robbery took place on December 22, 2017, within the jurisdiction of the Puttur Town police station.

Police said three unidentified persons allegedly entered a house, threatened the occupants with a pistol and a knife, and robbed them of gold ornaments worth approximately Rs 2.88 lakh and cash amounting to Rs 6 lakh.

Following the incident, a case was registered at the Puttur Town police station as Crime No. 200/2017, and an investigation was launched.

Accused remained absconding after securing bail

Police said Nelson C V had earlier obtained conditional bail in the case but failed to appear before the trial court from August 27, 2021 onwards.

Despite repeated court directions, the accused allegedly continued to evade the legal proceedings. As a result, the court issued a total of 41 arrest warrants against him for repeatedly violating its orders.

Police traced accused in Kerala

On July 8, a team from the Puttur Town police tracked down the accused at Miyur in Thrissur district, Kerala.

The operation was carried out by Head Constable Santosh A (HC 413), Police Constable Vinayak (PC 2347) and Police Constable Shivaraj (PC 454).

After taking him into custody, the police produced the accused before the competent court.

Separate case registered for bail violation

Police said that since Nelson C V had violated the conditions of his bail and repeatedly failed to appear before the court, a separate criminal case has also been registered against him.

The new case has been registered at the Puttur Town police station as Crime No. 80/2026 under Section 269 of the Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for allegedly failing to comply with the conditions imposed by the court.

Further legal proceedings in both cases are expected to continue before the competent court.
