Puttur: In a significant breakthrough, Sampya police have arrested an accused who had been absconding for seven years in connection with a house robbery attempt case registered in 2018 under Sampya police station limits.
The accused has been identified as Tun Tun Kumar (31), a native of Begusarai district in Bihar. He had reportedly failed to appear before the court after being named in the case, leading to prolonged efforts by the police to trace his whereabouts.
Accused evaded arrest for years
According to police sources, the case dates back to 2018 when an attempted house robbery was reported within Sampya police jurisdiction. Following the registration of the case, Kumar was identified as one of the accused.
However, he allegedly absconded soon after and remained untraceable for several years. Despite repeated efforts, authorities were unable to locate him, as he had reportedly moved out of the state and was living under the radar.
His continued absence also meant that he failed to comply with court proceedings, further complicating the case.
Police track him down in Bihar
After sustained investigation and intelligence gathering, Sampya police finally succeeded in tracing Kumar to his native place in Begusarai, Bihar. Acting on this information, a police team was dispatched to apprehend him.
The operation was carried out by a team comprising head constable Madhu K N and constables Astham R and Nagesh K C. The team coordinated efforts to locate and secure the accused before bringing him back to Karnataka.
Police sources indicated that the arrest marks a key step in reviving the long-pending case and ensuring due legal process.
Produced before court, remanded
Following his arrest, Kumar was produced before the court on Saturday. After hearing the matter, the court remanded him to judicial custody, police confirmed.
Officials stated that further legal proceedings in the case will now continue as per due process.
Conclusion
The arrest of the absconding accused after seven years highlights the persistence of law enforcement agencies in tracking down individuals evading justice. Sampya police have reiterated their commitment to pursuing pending cases and ensuring that accused persons are brought before the law, regardless of the time elapsed.
