Mangaluru/Ranebennur: Abu Saliya Khan, a former student of Ace IAS Academy, Mangaluru, has achieved an All India Rank of 588 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, making both his hometown Ranebennur in Haveri district and the academy proud.
Hailing from Kooli village, Abu Saliya began his academic journey in a Kannada-medium government school and later joined RTS College, Ranebennur in 2014 for pre-university studies. He earned his B.Sc in Agriculture from Shivamogga in 2019, laying the foundation for his UPSC dream.
He shifted to Mangaluru to join Ace IAS Academy, where he received comprehensive coaching. “The academy helped me build a strong base and instilled the spirit of public service,” he said, recalling his formative days.
Later, he moved to Delhi and pursued advanced preparation at Jamia Millia Islamia’s Residential Coaching Academy. His determination bore fruit in his fourth attempt, after clearing the prelims in 2023, which reignited his confidence.
Despite facing personal and financial hurdles, including the passing of his father, Hussain Khan Kulkarni, a NWKRTC bus conductor, and being raised by his mother Arshad Banu, Abu Saliya never wavered from his goal.
Though he aimed for the IAS or IPS, based on his rank, he anticipates selection into the Indian Revenue Service and had also attempted the Indian Forest Service exams.
The civil service community in Mangaluru celebrates his feat as a symbol of resilience and dedication.
