Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest in Mangaluru on Wednesday, condemning the recent removal of a bus stand near Hampanakatte by the City Corporation. The protesters demanded the immediate reconstruction of the bus stand at its original location, citing its importance for students and the general public.

During the protest, some students unexpectedly moved onto the road, prompting the police to use a mild lathicharge to control the situation.

The bus stand, which was dismantled on Tuesday night, had served students from nearby educational institutions, patients visiting hospitals, and other commuters. Its removal has left people standing under umbrellas in the rain or sun while waiting for buses, the protesting students claimed.

The protesters submitted a memorandum to the Mangalore Tahsildar, urging a swift resolution and the reinstatement of the bus stand at the same location.

Meanwhile, City Corporation officials defended their decision, stating that the bus shelter was obstructing the smooth flow of traffic in the area.
