A violent air conditioner explosion on Sunday evening, November 2, caused extensive damage to a house at Adyar Padavu, on the outskirts of Mangaluru. The blast destroyed furniture, clothes, cash, passports, and other valuables, though no injuries were reported.
Neighbours rush to control fire
The house belongs to Faizal, who was not present when the incident occurred. The property had been securely locked when neighbours noticed thick smoke emerging from the residence. Acting swiftly, they forced open the door and attempted to control the blaze before it spread further.
“We saw smoke pouring out and the door was locked, so we broke it open and tried to control the fire,” said a nearby resident who witnessed the incident.
According to reports, the air conditioner had been installed just four or five days ago. On Sunday evening, it suddenly exploded, triggering a fire that quickly filled the interiors of the house due to the closed doors and limited ventilation.
Heavy property loss reported
The explosion and subsequent fire caused severe damage to several sections of the house. “The fire has destroyed much of the furniture, clothing, cash, passports, and other valuables in the house,” a local source said.
While the total financial loss is yet to be officially assessed, preliminary estimates indicate that a significant amount of property has been destroyed. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
Probe underway into cause of explosion
Authorities have begun an investigation to determine the exact cause of the AC explosion. Preliminary findings suggest that a malfunction in the newly installed unit may have triggered the fire. Officials from the fire and electrical safety departments are expected to release a detailed report soon.
This incident has raised concerns over the safety of newly installed electrical appliances. Experts have advised residents to ensure proper installation, regular maintenance, and inspection of air conditioners and other devices to prevent similar accidents.
