Activist Jayanth T has raised new concerns about the handling of an alleged 2010 murder in Dharmasthala, accusing authorities of rushing through the burial without a proper inquiry. He alleged that on April 6, 2010, a woman in her 40s was murdered, yet the body was quickly buried through the local gram panchayat instead of following due legal process.
On Saturday, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) continued probing the broader Dharmasthala mass burial case and reportedly questioned the complainant-witness. Referring to documents obtained under the RTI Act, including burial bills, Jayanth questioned why the case was closed hastily, without attempts to uncover the truth. He said he would soon file a detailed complaint based on RTI records spanning 1995–2024 and demanded action against those who allegedly tampered with evidence.
“We are not against any temple or individual, but accountability must be fixed for the lapses,” he said. Jayanth also revealed that on August 4, he approached the SIT to lodge a complaint regarding the alleged burial of a minor girl and named individuals with knowledge of the incident, including a police official. The SIT has summoned all named persons for questioning, inspected the site, and hinted that exhumation might be necessary.
Jayanth added that a former panchayat president had allegedly tried to assault a witness, forcing him to file a police complaint. “People are afraid to come forward. I told SIT that if my claims are false, they can close the case or take action against me,” he stated.
