In a remarkable display of compassion, the family of Pratham, a 26-year-old advocate from Bantwal, made the selfless decision to donates organs after he was declared brain dead following a road accident near BC Road Circle. Pratham was admitted to AJ Hospital and Research Centre on March 8 after the accident, and despite intensive medical efforts, he was declared brain dead on March 16 according to medical protocol.
In an act of profound generosity, his family consented to organ donation, providing a chance for multiple critically ill patients to receive life-saving transplants. The donated organs—liver, kidneys, and corneas—were retrieved and successfully transplanted by the hospital’s medical team. The liver and kidneys were transplanted within AJ Hospital, offering hope to patients in need, while one kidney was allocated to KMC Hospital, Manipal.
Dr. Prashanth Marla K, medical director at AJ Hospital, praised the family’s decision, calling organ donation “a noble act that can save multiple lives.” He expressed gratitude to the hospital’s doctors, surgeons, and coordinators for their efforts. Dr. Marla also urged the public to consider organ donation, emphasizing that it could turn grief into hope and save countless lives. The family’s decision has not only honored Pratham’s legacy but also inspired others to think about the life-changing impact of organ donation.
