Hospital & Research Centre, Mangaluru, has strengthened its diagnostic capabilities with the installation of two advanced imaging systems from Hologic, USA—3D mammography with vacuum-assisted breast biopsy and a state-of-the-art whole-body DEXA system. The upgrade reinforces the hospital’s commitment to early detection, preventive care, and precision-based women’s health services.
Enhanced 3D mammography with biopsy capability
The Hologic 3D mammography system (digital breast tomosynthesis) allows high-resolution, layered visualisation of breast tissue, improving detection accuracy compared with traditional 2D imaging. The platform also supports contrast-enhanced studies. Integrated with a vacuum-assisted breast biopsy device, the system enables precise, minimally invasive sampling of suspicious lesions within the same clinical setting, reducing procedure time and improving patient comfort.
Whole-body DEXA for metabolic and bone health assessment
The newly installed Hologic whole-body DEXA (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) system offers accurate measurements of bone mineral density and comprehensive body composition analysis, including fat, lean mass and visceral adipose tissue. The low-dose technology supports diagnosis and monitoring of osteoporosis, sarcopenia and metabolic disorders, while also assisting in nutrition planning, obesity management and sports science.
