Rohith Singh Rawat and several other aspirants missed their last chance to appear for the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) due to a landslide between Sakleshpur and Ballupet late Friday night. The disruption affected their travel plans, as they were aboard the 16511 Bangalore-Kannur Express, which was halted, preventing them from reaching their exam center in Mangaluru.
“This was my last attempt. I won’t meet the age eligibility for future exams. My dream of joining the Air Force has ended,” expressed a devastated Rawat, who was traveling with fellow aspirant Vikaad. The group, traveling from Bengaluru, found themselves stuck in Alur until 12:30 PM, well past the 8:30 AM reporting time for the exam.
The AFCAT was conducted in 31 cities across India, with centers in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru, and Belagavi for Karnataka candidates. The Mangaluru center, located at Sri Sharada Vidyaniketan in Talapady, required students to enter by 8:30 AM. However, the disruption in train services left many unable to attend, costing them a vital opportunity.
“These exams are held twice a year and are conducted simultaneously across the country, making it impossible to reschedule for a specific center. It was simply our bad luck,” lamented Sriketan, another aspirant from Andhra Pradesh who also missed the exam.
