Bantwal: Police have registered a case against an autorickshaw driver for allegedly assaulting a staff member and vandalising property at a gas pump agency in Melkar Bogodi of Panemangalur village.
Complaint filed by agency manager
According to the complaint filed by Kunal Bhuhniya (27), a manager at the gas pump agency, the incident occurred on the evening of March 20. The accused, identified as Afreez (28), a resident of Sajipamuda, reportedly arrived at the premises in his autorickshaw.
Officials said the situation escalated suddenly when the accused allegedly barged into the office without provocation.
Assault on staff member
As per the complaint, Afreez allegedly abused and physically assaulted an employee named Ashwin, who was on duty at the time. The sudden attack caused panic among other staff members present at the agency.
The injured employee’s condition has not been detailed, but the incident has raised concerns over safety at commercial establishments.
Property damage reported
After the alleged assault, the accused reportedly moved outside the office and damaged property belonging to the gas pump agency. The extent of the damage has been estimated at around ₹48,000, according to the complaint.
The vandalism included damage to office infrastructure and other items within the premises.
Case registered under BNS sections
Based on the manager’s complaint, Bantwal Nagar Police have registered a case against the accused under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
The sections invoked include 115(2), 287, 324(4), 351(2), and 352, covering offences related to assault, causing hurt, and property damage.
Investigation underway
Police officials confirmed that an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact sequence of events and motive behind the incident. Efforts are underway to secure further evidence and take appropriate legal action.
Authorities have indicated that statements from witnesses and staff present at the scene are being recorded as part of the probe.
