Mangaluru: A tragic road accident claimed the life of an autorickshaw driver while leaving several others injured in Karkala taluk on Thursday.
According to the complaint filed by Dheeraj (19), a resident of Mudaru, the accident occurred when he was riding a two-wheeler with his friend Jithesh as a pillion. The duo was travelling from Bajagoli towards Nitte.
As they approached the Pulkeri bypass in Sanuru village, an autorickshaw driven by Ravi, carrying passengers and coming from Karkala town towards Moodbidri, allegedly rammed into the rear of their motorcycle. Dheeraj stated that the rickshaw was being driven in a rash and negligent manner.
The impact caused the autorickshaw to topple, trapping its driver Ravi beneath the vehicle. Locals and the complainant rushed to rescue him and shifted him to the Government Hospital in Karkala. Unfortunately, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, both the two-wheeler riders and the autorickshaw passengers suffered minor injuries in the crash. They received medical attention and are reported to be out of danger.
In connection with the incident, Karkala Town Police have registered a case under Sections 281, 125(a), and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigations are underway to determine further details regarding the cause of the accident.
