Mangaluru: The Awake Kudla app, developed by Sri Ambamaheshwari Seva Trust, has been introduced through a soft launch, with a complete release planned in two weeks, announced Trust President Seetharam A. on Wednesday.

This digital initiative is designed to address pressing civic concerns in Mangaluru, such as traffic congestion, waste disposal, and public hygiene. The app encourages public participation by allowing users to report local issues, especially related to garbage management and road problems.

Umanath Kotekar, General Secretary of the Trust, explained that the platform acts as a connector between citizens, authorities, and other stakeholders. “We aim to observe problems, build public consciousness, and foster action based on shared responsibility for our environment,” he stated.

To extend the project’s impact, the Trust intends to collaborate with local groups and associations. With the potential support of the Mangaluru City Corporation and district officials, the programme could expand citywide, covering all 60 wards divided into 20 clusters.

Each cluster, comprising three wards, will be overseen by a trained coordinator—20 in total—who will be equipped with the skills needed to run the initiative effectively. The plan includes extensive educational campaigns across homes, businesses, and institutions focusing on waste reduction and traffic discipline.

The Trust, known for its longstanding community work in education, healthcare, and environmental causes, has also rolled out a pilot project in three wards. Waste collection strategies include daily pickup of wet and sanitary waste, biweekly dry waste removal, and weekly collection of garden/agricultural refuse.
